We have been busy with our classroom business of making and selling greeting cards, dog treats, and coffee. We have weekly cooking lessons, work on our classroom budget, and practice vocational and independent living skills.

Although the main goal of our class is to work on IEP goals and transitioning into the workforce, we will be working as a class on a comprehensive list of skills. Including, but not limited to the following:

  • Reading Comprehension - Students will practice reading job-related instructions and information to prepare them for work.

  • Math Skills - Students will work as a class on a monthly budget, getting a mock paycheck, and mock bills to practice money skills.

  • Goal Setting - We will work on setting a goal and the steps needed to achieve that goal.

  • Decision Making - We will talk about weighing the pros and cons to make good decisions.

  • Transportation - We will work on navigating the community using different ways.

  • Health and Hygiene - We will talk about making healthy choices and personal hygiene.

  • Life Skills - We may have guest speakers to teach students skills that they may be interested in learning.

  • Job Search Skills - We will practice the process of searching and applying for a job, the interview process, and communicating with possible employers.

  • Fundraising/Entrepreneurship - Students may choose as a class to do a fundraiser or explore selling their creations.

Mission: to provide students with disabilities a post-secondary training experience in order to acquire employability and life skills.

Vision: to create an individualized program to help students achieve their post secondary vision and to live a fulfilled life.

Wyandotte Transiton Program

Students will be able to:

  • Follow directions

  • Clean and properly store supplies, tools, and equipment

  • Demonstrate safety precautions

  • Acceptable hygiene

  • Accept constructive criticism

  • Ask questions to clarify directions

  • Remain on task
